Making a positive difference with Liverpool One

May 9th, 2016

Liverpool ONE is striving to be the UK’s number one retail and leisure destination for people with a visual impairment!

A recent partnership saw Liverpool ONE and Christopher Grange Visual Rehabilitation Centre collaborate to improve the shopping experience for people with a visual impairment.

As part of the initiative, Liverpool ONE’s Customer Service team and front line management staff attended bespoke Visual Impairment Awareness Training (VIAT) enabling them to offer customer assistance in a confident and helpful manner; and becoming the very first shopping destination in the country to complete the training in the process.

Facilitated by Christopher Grange Rehabilitation Centre, the Liverpool ONE team enjoyed the experience immensely, with feedback including:

“The training opened my eyes to the difficulties faced by someone with a visual impairment, I will now be able to approach and assist in the correct way with confidence, learning the sighted guide technique was most useful and something I will use in my job (and outside of it!) Great training session!”

Gina Martinelli (Talent and Engagement Advisor for Liverpool ONE) said, “We were delighted to engage with Christopher Grange in this development programme for our team. We’re committed to delivering the very best service to our customers and equipping our team with the knowledge and training to do this is just part of our daily operation. The training was superb, interactive, informative and fun, expertly delivered by Wendy Booth. Thank you!”

Chris Bliss, Estate Director commented: “At Liverpool ONE, our aim is to provide the best experience in the UK, always and this applies each and every one of our customers. Working with the team at Christopher Grange, has enabled us to not only to raise awareness of visual impairments within the team, but equipped our staff with invaluable skills to offer our customers the best experience possible. The session was not only informative, but extremely interactive giving staff the opportunity to practice techniques under guidance, and build their confidence to efficiently support visually impaired customers. The team at Christopher Grange have been fantastic, from sharing their expertise to adapting the training programme to ensure our team came away with the best information to fully support all visitors to Liverpool ONE.”

Mike Bailey Manager of Christopher Grange Visual Rehabilitation Centre said, “We are extremely pleased that Liverpool ONE have embraced this initiative in such a positive manner, they truly want to make a difference to their customers shopping experience, becoming the first shopping destination in the country to complete our national award winning Visual Impairment Awareness Training.”

St Vincent’s School Visit

April 7th, 2016

IMG_1340CGRC and St Vincent’s School for Sensory Impaired Children have been working together, to share practice and skills.

An on-going initiative, to enhance service user knowledge and experiences, included a visit to the school. The visit gave both service users and staff from CRGC the opportunity to explore the school and experience first-hand ways in which the children are taught, through traditional, sensory and experiential learning styles.

Pictured left is the group visiting the beautiful chapel at the school.
