Distance Learning

Our National Award winning Visual Impairment Awarness Training (VIAT) is designed as a distance learning course comprising a text book and an activity workbook that is to be completed by the learner. It is divided into 11 modules with exercises and questions, which take the reader through the facts and figures about sight problems, discusses some of the myths and realities, explore various assistive devices, and provide straightforward practical advice.

When the activity book has been completed and the answers approved by the course provider, the learner completes a multiple-choice test on topics covered in the course. The successful learner then receives a certificate of achievement.

The course is now also available online through NCC Resources and is backed by Visionary, the national membership organisation for local sight loss charities.

"This is an exciting initiative that will help people to develop a broader understanding of visual impairment and improve their confidence when interacting with a person with sight loss. We at Visionary are very pleased to be able to support this." Alison Oliver, Visionary's Chief Executive
