KS3 News!

January 12th, 2012

Most of us have followed a topic about ‘Raising Aspirations’. We did a project about Universities and have learnt about being a student and what it means to study for a degree. We had fun with puzzles and games as well as serious work on reading, writing and discussions. We also met some real University students.

To celebrate we have had our own version of ‘Graduation’ and received certificates for the work we have done. After learning about University some of us would like to try and get there one day to become a student!

Afghanistan
As part of their Citizenship studies, Key Stage 3 have been learning about the war in Afghanistan. They prepared a shoebox for a soldier serving in Afghanistan, which has now been delivered by the Co-op. They found it very interesting to decide what could and could not be sent out. Chocolate was definitely not acceptable as it would melt in the desert heat! The activity has raised their awareness of conflict around the world.

Year 7 and 8 Booked Up Event
As the son of a Viking chief, Hiccup should be able to pass the Dragon Initiation Programme with flying colours. Unfortunately for Hiccup his stubborn dragon Toothless has other ideas. But the arrival of the Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus offers the chance for Hiccup to shine. Can he defeat the dragon and save the Viking tribe from certain death?

All Year 7 and 8 pupils can find out the answer to this by listening to the free audio book provided by the Booked Up Trust.
