Action for Blind People and the Field Studies Council (FSC) are running three activity weekends for 12 blind and partially sighted young people aged 14-17 years from the North West.

The weekends will aim to help those involved to increase their self confidence and independence, to gain new friends and to develop their skills of working with others. There will also be an opportunity to gain the John Muir Award through discovering, exploring and looking after the natural surroundings.

Those taking part in the weekends will have the chance to agree the activities that are undertaken which may include; team games, low ropes courses, climbing, canoeing, wildlife walks, bushcraft, an overnight camp out and a conservation activity.

Dates: The three activity weekends will take place:  22^nd -24^th  March, 17^th-19^th May, 7^th-9^th June 2013. Those taking part will be invited to a welcoming and planning event at the end of 2012 and a presentation evening at the end of the programme, date TBC.

Location: The activity breaks will take place at FSC Castle Head Field Centre which lies between the fells of the Lake District and the shores of Morecambe Bay. The FSC is the UK’s leading provider of high-quality outdoor environmental education.

Cost: £100.00 (covers all 3 weekends) and includes all meals, accommodation and train travel costs. (£25 refunded on completion of the programme)

Application criteria: applicants must sign up to all 3 activity weekends.

Participants need to be 14-17 years old from 1^st Oct 2012 – 30th Sept 2013.
